ADVERSARIES OF THE FORM

The history of art from antiquity to the avant-garde of the 20th century

4 CLASSES

WEDNESDAY  19  at 21  HS

Start july 15

In the century of Pericles great milestones of Greek art were made, the Parthenon is proof of this. In classical antiquity, great competitions were held that promoted self-improvement and whose objective was mimesis, the famous imitation of reality. Mythic was the painting encounter in which Zeuxis asked Parrhasio to draw the curtain to see the work, without realizing that he had been deceived and that it was part of the work.

Adversaries of the form, raises the ambiguous relationship of these artists who argued about the concept of art but who in turn became rich  in the exchange: Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, Claude Monet and Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, being examples that illustrate  the different times. From their exchange, interesting debates arise about the form, the colors, the point of view, the landscapes, the background figure. It only remains to peek and immerse ourselves in the life and work of these artists.

1- Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. Florence: meeting of the arts,  the explosion of painting, sculpture, and architecture.

2- Claude Monet and Edgar Degas. Levitate in the mist: of dancers and landscapes.

3- Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh. The power of the brushstroke and the vibration of the palette.

4- Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. Between the cubes and the ferocity of color
