a leap into the void

Through her work, Efe seeks to show how nature teaches us that mixture and hybridity is present before humans.

During her stay at the residency, she presented as an original project to find a binary butterfly. Science says it might be an anomaly. Product of her own personal experience, and without succesfully finding the butterfly during the month of residence, Efe decided to make a series of watercolors from a biology manual that she transformed from her imagination , to create new species. She transforms butterflies into fairies and gives them the possibility of existence from her own creativity.

In the room, the watercolors were arranged one next to the other, generating movement and giving brightness and color to the exhibition space. The artist has the ability to transmit a lot from the simple and the minimal. In addition, she placed found objects that she conceives as gifts of nature. Based on her transformation images, the artist created a climate of reverie and fantasy in the room where it is possible to dream of a future life in those beings that for centuries were designated as abnormal by Western culture.

With her work, Efe shows how nature taught us a long time ago that transformation, the non-binary, and hybridity exist; even prior to culture and language.

It is possible to summarize the work of the artist in residence through one sentence: YES I AM.
